There are many legitimate reasons for a Debian GNU/Linux user to wish to run Microsoft Windows applications. One approach involves using the wine program to run a single Windows executable in a fake Windows environment. An alternative is to run an entire Windows operating system within a Debian host. Qemu is a really cool project developed by several ppls, imagine how big vmware co. is. Of cz, qemu cannot match VMWare in term of performance, as VMWare spent lots of money and time to improve speed. We cannot expect the several qemu geniuses produce the same in a short time. Anyway, they are on the promise road, i think.

just now found ndiswrapper 1.2rc1 is struggling to support WUSB54Gv4, it’s a good news for me, as I have a linksys wusb54gv4. too busy right now to try compiling and installing it. anyway, glad to hear this. I will installed after ndiswrapper 1.2 debian pkg is available, if wusb54gv4 is finally supported. Here is some info for native driver support, seems no usb support yet.
ACTUALLY, i dun what are APM and ACPI. but misconfig will make my debian of laptop dun how many power left in battery. so, record the tip here.
after u update ur kernel, donnot forget to append “acpi=off apm=on” to ur kernel parameter line in /boot/grub/menu.list

Just now, found albumshaper from kde-apps.org, which can generate HTML album and then share ur photos. Seems there is lack of enough template for album generated, compared with those commercial counterparts, e.g., mosaic.
Anyway, it is not too bad, worth trying.

As i know so far, non-free tmpgenc on windows performs much better than ffmpeg and mpeg2enc on linux, especially with low bitrate. Achurch gives a rough comparison among them.
Anyway, if u stick on linux to encode DV, seems mpeg2enc has not too bad quality and ttmpeg is definitely much faster.
As i am a beginner (actually, have been a beginner for years, maybe forever.
